WHO WE ARE

Waterway Drainage Engineering was established in 2024. The aim being, to deliver innovative sustainable drainage solutions, through utilising a wealth of knowledge accumulated from over 15 years of experience in both the public and private sector.

Our expertise is enhanced by being provided by a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager and Chartered Environmentalist.
Founded in Cumbria, Waterway Drainage Engineering provides commercial and residential drainage solutions nationwide; completed projects have ranged from Bournemouth to Lochmaben.
Sustainable Urban Drainage Solutions (SuDS) are required to support planning applications for all new build and retrofitted developments across to UK.  Whether this be for an outline or full planning application or for discharge of conditions, we are happy to discuss your projects and how we can best manage surface water on site without increasing flood risk.
Using the latest Causeway Flow software, we will create a drainage solution tailored to your site’s needs that is fully compliant with the latest government standards.

A well-designed foul water drainage system is required for any new commercial
or residential development. We have extensive experience of delivering foul water drainage solutions for projects ranging from holiday parks, residential developments and large scale commercial units across the UK.

All foul water drainage designs are tailored to your site’s needs and compliant with Sewage Sector Guidance.

Introduced by Natural England, Nutrient Neutrality (NN) is required to be achieved in all developments where there is seen to be a risk of increased nutrient pollution within an at risk catchment area.

We work closely with Lead Local Flood Authorities, Natural England and Local Planning Authorities to achieve cost effective nutrient neutrality solutions tailored to your site’s requirements.

We have achieved numerous successes with gaining approval from Local Planning Authorities for Nutrient Neutrality Mitigation Strategies. With solutions ranging from septic tank replacements, soakaways, woodland/wildflower meadow planting and apple tree planting above drainage fields.

We provide Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) for all new build, and retrofit, commercial and residential developments.
The FRA will assess the risks to the development site from rivers, sea, sewers, groundwater and infrastructure failure.
In addition, mitigation measures are established to ensure that any development is compliant with the latest Government standards and to ensure that flood risk on site, or within the vicinity of any new development is not increased.
Any project which is likely t have a significant effect on a European designated site must be subject to an HRA.  The assessment will establish potential pathways for a range of pollutants to enter the designated sites and whether any habitats or species will be affected by the proposals.
A particular focus has been providing clients with Shadow HRS to aid with Nutrient Neutrality Mitigation Strategies in at risk catchments areas.
Water neutrality is a concept whereby the total demand from the mains water supply after development has taken place, is the same (or less) than it was before the development took place.
We provide mitigation solutions ranging from shallow boreholes, reducing water usage through efficient technologies, water reuse and water offsetting within water neutrality catchments across the UK.
From 2024, the UK Government introduced Biodiversity Net Gain, similar to Nutrient Neutrality, Biodiversity Net Gain has been introduced as a measure to reduce the environmental impact of developments. Its aim being to protect and enhance habitats to enable biodiversity to flourish post development.
Developers in England must now demonstrate a 10% Biodiversity Net Gain. Waterway Drainage Engineering can assist in evaluating the biodiversity of a development site and will guide you to ensure a 10% Net Gain is achieved.
